Cleveland Foodbank and Area Needy Benefit from Team Effort of Insurance Partners Agency and 'Lift Up America'

Insurance Partners Agency has teamed up with the national nonprofit humanitarian aid organization, 'Lift Up America' to help feed the needy in Northeast Ohio.

Lift Up America is movement that provides hope and opportunities for success to the less fortunate. The organization partners with corporations, sports and entertainment groups, and organizations to sponsor unique events providing life aid to help support the physical, emotional and personal development of the less fortunate.

Lift Up America contacted Insurance Partners Agency President George Dadas to ask for his company's local support in a major food drive donation in Northeast Ohio. Insurance Partners Agency sponsored and assisted in providing more than 30,000 lbs of chicken for Cleveland area food banks, which were in turn then delivered to a host of organizations and churches directly in small communities.

According to Mr. Dadas, "We really like the Lift up America theme of inspiring lives of compassion. Compassion is sympathy for the suffering of others and taking action to help. We look forward to more significant local events like these in the future."

Lift Up America partners with over 1,500 nonprofit organizations that serve the less fortunate including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys and Girls Clubs, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, Here's Life Inner City, and Feeding America.

The early beginnings of the organization started in 2004 when Dave Hannah met John Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Tyson Foods. At that time Tyson was giving away large quantities of food each year to those in need. Dave and John discussed the possibility of giving away food in partnership with sports teams throughout America. Dave then contacted Clark Hunt, owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Wayne Huizenga, Jr., owner of the Miami Dolphins, asking if their organizations would participate in an event to distribute food to the less fortunate in their home cities. Both the Dolphins and the Chiefs enthusiastically seized the opportunity and on December 28, 2004, the first event was held in which Tyson Foods, Ty Inc., the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs, and more than 30 nonprofit organizations distributed 74,000 pounds of frozen chicken (the equivalent to 370,000 meals) and 20,000 Ty teddy bears to people in need. This one-day event proved very successful and was the beginning of Lift Up America.

Major local sports team supporters for Lift up America include the Cleveland Browns and the Cleveland Indians.
